Historically speaking, the application of innovation and technology in finance in Bulgaria is dated back to the late 1960s when the first computers were installed in the Bulgarian banks. Ever since then, despite any economic and political obstacles, Bulgaria has always managed to keep up with financial technology.
Nowadays, when people talk about innovation and technology in finance, they use the term Fintech, where “Fintech” stands for new business approaches, products, and services that remodel the common understanding of financial and banking services. As the Chairman of the Bulgarian Fintech Association states “Although the Bulgarian Fintech industry is considered a small contributor to the national GDP, it is one giant leap towards a high-value-added economy. In fact, for developing countries such as Bulgaria, the Fintech industry is one of a few opportunities for catching up and promoting a highly efficient economy”.
In this context, for a second consecutive year, the Bulgarian Fintech Association (BFA) publishes an Annual Fintech Report which marks the achievements of the digital finance industry in the country. The Report deep dives into the Bulgarian Fintech financials for 2019, reveal the investments in the sector and presents the very first Bulgarian Fintech Mapping .
To reach a larger audience, the Report will be presented at the virtual conference “Bulgaria on the European Fintech Map”, organized by the BFA on 24th November, from 11 AM – 3 PM. During the 4-hour event, BFA will present the Report 2020 and reveal the progress and place of the Bulgarian Fintech sector in Europe. The presentation will be followed by a couple of discussions on the present and future of digital finance technologies, COVID-19 and its impact on the Fintech sector, the new EU regulatory proposals, etc. Invited for the conference are the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria, the European Commission, European Digital Finance Association, Mastercard, Paynetics, Paysera, Bulgarian-American Credit Bank, IUVO, Penkov, Markov and Partners, Credissimo and Klear.
